WHY IT'S DIFFERENT
I. A blade, not a charm.
The vertical sword sits 32mm long with a tapered shaft and softened guard, dimensional rather than flat-stamped, so it reads as a piece of armory on the body — not a cute symbol of one.
II. The hilt is the part that decides.
A briolette ruby falls from the tip of the blade, hand-cut in deep crimson — the drop of something earned, hanging from the part of the sword that did the earning.
III. Strength worn delicately.
A 1mm fine box chain threads through the piercing and trails 42mm behind the ear, so the weapon at the front is held by something almost weightless — the entire piece a contradiction the wearer is already living.

At 2.3–2.8g per earring in solid 18k gold, with a curved shepherd-hook threader and rounded blade edges, it moves with the jaw, sits flush against the skin, and disappears into daily wear until someone notices it and then it doesn't.

Why It Is Made This Way
The Sovereign is built around a contradiction — a weapon, hung from a thread — and that contradiction is only convincing if every part of the piece holds its weight.
The sword charm is cast dimensionally rather than stamped flat, so the guard, shaft, and tip each carry their own thickness and catch light the way a real blade would. Edges are softened by hand after casting, because a piece worn against the jaw cannot be sharp, and a piece this slim cannot afford a rough finish. The briolette ruby is hand-cut and individually matched between pairs for color depth and faceting symmetry, then capped and secured at the sword base in a setting designed to hold through daily wear without breaking the line of the blade.
The threader itself is the quiet part of the work. A 1mm box chain has to move smoothly enough to pass through the piercing without catching, while staying strong enough to carry the weight of the sword and stone for years. That balance is set link by link, and the shepherd-hook bar is polished to rounded ends so nothing scrapes the skin when the piece is put on or taken off.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Is this earring sold as a pair or as a single?
The Sovereign is sold as a matched pair. Each piece is mirrored left-and-right during casting so the sword charms hang in the correct orientation on either ear, which is something you cannot achieve by simply duplicating a single design.
Will the threader fall through my piercing?
No. The 1mm fine box chain is weighted to pass smoothly through the piercing and then settle, with the sword charm at the front and the rear chain tail balancing it from behind. Once threaded, the piece stays in place through normal daily movement.
How do I put a threader earring on?
You guide the rear pull-through bar into the front of the piercing, draw the chain gently through until the sword charm sits at the position you want, and let the rear tail hang behind the ear. It takes a few seconds once you have done it once, and there is no clasp or back to lose.
Is it comfortable to wear all day?
Yes. At 2.3–2.8g per earring in solid 18k gold, the weight is intentional but not heavy. The ear wire is 0.9mm with polished rounded ends, and the sword edges are softened by hand after casting so nothing catches the skin or jaw through the day.
Will the ruby fall out?
The briolette ruby is set into a gold cap connection at the base of the sword, secured at the top-drilled point. It is engineered to hold through daily wear. Each pair is individually inspected for stone security before dispatch.
Is the ruby real?
The ruby is lab-grown — chemically and structurally identical to a mined ruby, with the same hardness, color depth, and faceting behavior. We chose lab-grown because it allows us to match color and clarity between pairs at a standard that mined stones at this size and price point cannot consistently deliver.
What is the difference between the 18k Gold and the Gold Vermeil version?
The 18k Gold version is solid gold throughout. The Gold Vermeil version is 925 sterling silver with a heavy layer of 18k gold plating, which gives it the same surface appearance at a lower price. Both versions use the same ruby, the same finishing standards, and the same hand-review process. The difference is the core metal.
Will the vermeil wear off over time?
Vermeil uses a heavier gold layer than standard gold plating, which extends its life significantly with proper care. Avoid contact with perfume, lotion, chlorine, and saltwater, wipe gently with a soft cloth after wear, and store flat in the pouch provided. Treated this way, the finish holds for years.
Can I sleep, shower, or swim in it?
We recommend removing the earring before sleep, showers, swimming, and workouts. Threader chains are designed for daily wear, not constant wear, and the ruby setting is best protected from prolonged moisture and impact.
Will it suit a smaller or shorter ear?
The visible front drop is 58mm, which falls at roughly the jawline on most wearers. The rear chain tail of 42mm sits behind the ear and is not visible from the front. The piece is designed to elongate the line of the neck, and it reads as intentional on a wide range of ear shapes and sizes.
What size piercing does it fit?
Standard lobe piercings. The threader bar is 0.9mm thick, which passes through any healed piercing made with standard gauge jewelry.

Once approved, it is packaged securely and prepared for delivery.
